Types of competition

Competitions for juniors may be:

  • Closed
Open only to eligible players from clubs in the Eastern Area (or whichever area the competition is taking place in).   A good choice for a first competition.
  • Invitation
Open only to eligible players from invited clubs.   Could be of a high or low standard.
  • Open
Open to any eligible player.   Most are tough.
  • Mini Mon
Open to players of lower Mon grade, usually up to 6th Mon, but sometimes up to 9th Mon.   A good choice for younger players, but the standard can still be high.
  • Age banded
A competition in which players compete with others of similar age.   Beware of under-graded players!

Junior competitions are also usually restricted according to age, grade, or both age and grade.
