There is no formal judo grading scheme for players coming into the sport between the ages of 5 and 8 years. However, as an incentive to our youngest players to keep up their judo we operate the British Judo Association's Kano Club scheme.
Through the Kano Club, players can earn badges, certificates and stickers by learning some basic judo knowledge and demonstrating proficiency in elementary throwing and holding techniques.
All Kano Club players wear white belts, with coloured tabs indicating their progression through the Kano scheme.
Players have the opportunity to "grade" several times a year. Kano gradings happens at the club and are carried out by our Senior Club Coach in an informal manner.
At the age of eight, players transfer to our junior section and to the Mon grading system.
A comprehensive summary of the Kano grading syllabus is available on this site to club members.
